• Q8. Dose speaker material affects sound quality?

[ANS]: Speaker enclosure is a key point for speaker performance. Ideal speaker enclosure should be a rigid body to maintain the sound stability from enclosure vibration. There are a lot of people think plastic enclosure is worse than wooden enclosure. To be honest, yes, enclosure made by plastic is very easy to cause resonance to affect the sound quality. The wooden material can actually solve this problem.

Plastic and wood are both common materials for speaker enclosure in the market. There are different advantages for each different material. The advantage of plastic is easier processing for good looking shape. It’s also easier to control the cost of plastic enclosure mass production. However, it must take consideration to overcome the speaker vibration while designing a plastic speaker enclosure. Rigidity and resonance control are also key points for plastic speaker enclosure design. Damping and rigidity characteristics of wooden speaker enclosure are guarantee for good sound. For speaker enclosure design, the lower resonance frequency, the better sound you will get. This rule can also apply to active speaker enclosure with high power amplifier. For plastic speaker enclosure, if you choice proper material, it can also have as good sound as wooden speaker enclosure.

  • Q7. How do you categorize speaker enclosures?

    [ANS]
There are several ways to categorize speaker enclosures. In professional audio area, the most common categories are as following:
    1. Categorizing by application environment: professional audio enclosure, home audio enclosures.
    2. Categorizing by frequency response: full-band speaker enclosures (includes full-range, 2 or 3 ways designs), subwoofer speaker enclosures.
    3. Categorizing by common speaker enclosure structure: sealed enclosure, bass reflex enclosure, sealed enclosure with passive radiator.

  • Q6. What can crossover do?

[ANS]: Frequency range that human can hear is from 20Hz to 20K Hz. For designing a speaker driver, the frequency response will be different if using different weight of speaker driver cone body. Generally speaking, cone body with lighter weight will have higher frequency response, and cone body with heavier weight will have mid or lower frequency response. So, it is very hard for a full range speaker to present entire frequency range. Usually low amplitude (high frequency) sound will combine together with high amplitude (low frequency) sound. So, it will make sound unclear if we don’t deal with sound properly. Because of the above reasons, the crossover is necessary for speaker design, and crossover can usually design for 2-way, 3-way and more speakers.

  • Q5. What are key points to make good speaker enclosure?

[ANS]: There are two main categories of speaker enclosure: passive speaker enclosure and active speaker enclosure (also known as passive speaker and active speaker). Traditional passive speaker can be built by three components: 1. Speaker driver. 2. Speaker enclosure. 3. Crossover. Active speaker can be built by three components: 1. Speaker driver. 2. Speaker enclosure. 3. Amplifier. Speaker driver is the soul of entire speaker system. The performance and material of speaker diver decide the sound of speaker system.

  • Q4. How do you get speaker driver rated power value thatdisplayedon your driver’s specs sheet?

[ANS] :  The rated power (RMS) of TB’s products is based on National Standard. It has been tested several times by using pink noise andgets the concluded rated power for all out products.

  • Q3. What do we need to take consideration for car speaker design?

[ANS] : Because of out-door harsh environment, car audio needs to be designed for the following properties:waterproof, dustproof, anti-vibration and high temperature resistance. Also, because of the complex structure of car door, it is something equal to Infinite baffle. So, the Qts value of subwoofer usually need to be larger than 0.5 for better low frequency performance

  • Q2. What is module speaker?

[ANS] : Module = speaker box. By the popularity of portable electric products (mobile phone and tablet PCs), there are more and more industries that require better sound quality products than before. TB module speaker was born in this environmenttrend. It perfectly solved the cross-industry speaker design problem. With TB passive radiator technologydesign, module can generate great low frequency sound which can only be generated by large size speaker, and it can also take care of the quality of high frequency sound at the same time.

  • Q1. How many different types do speaker drivers have? What is standard for determine different types of speaker drivers.

    [ANS] :
    A) Determining byspeaker transducer mechanism:dynamic, electrostatic, piezoelectric, magnetostrictive, transparent ionic conduction and air motion types. Most of TB speaker drivers are dynamic type.
    B) Determining by speaker frequency: woofer, mid-range, tweeter and subwoofer.
    C) Determining by speaker size (diameter of diaphragm): 1”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 5”, 6.5”, 8”, 10”… etc.
    D) Determining by speaker diaphragm shape: round, runway, ovaland square.
